Do you earn between 40,000 and 45,000 a month before tax? If so, you receive the most widespread salary in Norway.

This is according to new figures received by FriFagbevegelse from Statistics Norway.

No major changes

There are three million jobs in Norway. Half of these are paid salaries of between 35,000 and 60,000 kroner a month.

This corresponds to an average annual income of between 420,000 and 720,000 kroner.

By way of comparison, a small number of people receive salaries of over 100,000 kroner a month – or 1.2 million kroner a year. These account for 6 in every 100 jobs in Norway.

– There have been no major changes in pay distribution compared to previous years, says Knut Snellingen Bye of Statistics Norway.

Even so, earnings  have generally increased, which can be explained by the normal growth in pay.

– General pay levels shift upwards year-on-year, which is what we expect them to do, says Bye.

The table below shows the number of people who receive the various monthly pay levels in Norway.

NB: The figures include both full-time and part-time employees. The earnings of part-time employees have been restated so that they correspond to full-time positions. This means, for example, that a salary of 20,000 kroner received by an employee in a half-time position is restated and shown as 40,000 kroner.

NB: The earnings in the table are pre-tax figures.
